Built in the late 1600s, Weston Hall is located in a quiet Northamptonshire village and became a haunt for some of the greatest 20th century literary gures while it was the home of the writer Sir Sacheverell Sitwell from 1923 until his death in 1988.
‘Sachie’ entertained his many literary friends, including Evelyn Waugh, Patrick Leigh Fermor, Cecil Beaton and Noel Coward at his famous house parties. Sachie’s sister, the poet Dame Edith Sitwell, was a frequent visitor. Little has changed since the 1930s, the house is full of portraits and memorabilia of the Sitwells.
Weston Hall is still a home and is available on an exclusive use basis with only a small number of weddings each year.
Today the host is food writer and MasterChef critic William Sitwell. By special arrangement, William can curate (or sometimes cook himself) dinners for wedding guests the evening before the wedding – certainly a different way to start the celebrations!
The gardens are perfectly suited for a marquee wedding, with the bridal party and guests able to wander the grounds and immerse themselves in the peaceful surroundings. The gardens are a wonderful place for drinks and canapes. Along with the Victorian Orangery, Weston Hall has beautiful views and secret spots for the all-important photographs.
Along with the North Front, the Topiary Garden and more secluded spots in the grounds, there is complete flexibility based on the style of wedding and number of guests attending.
While the house is not able to hold a ceremony, the Topiary Garden is stunningly laid out for blessings and humanist weddings.
There is also luxury accommodation in the house, ideal for the Bridal party on the night of the wedding. The guests can occupy a self-contained wing of the house and each beautiful room provides the greatest level of comfort. Within yards of the house The Crown Inn offers delicious lunches and dinners throughout the week as well as great accommodation for extra guests.
